It's time for a recount. We are starting from scratch baby!

Over the last four years, I have been sharing my controller collection count because it dawned on me that I have...a lot of controllers. Sparked by a move, I tallied them all up and have been keeping a loose log as the years have gone by. With my new office/studio/game room all in order now, I figured it was time to lay them all out again and redo the count. Plus, it's a good excuse to wrap tangled cables and remove forgotten batteries.

Another year of minimal growth with just two added to the grand total. That's what happens when you buy a new console and don't sell the old one. Let's dig a little deeper.

On the Nintendo front, there are no new additions to report. I do have an 8BitDo N64 controller on pre-order, but that'll have to be added next year. I was the tiniest bit surprised to see how many SNES controllers I had all laid out. It is the 2D standard. The GameCube collection needs growth. You can never have too many of the GOAT controller.

PlayStation is the group were our two new compatriots appear. The PS5 Pro came with a DualSense. Since I didn't snag the 30th Anniversary Pro, I bought a PS Portal instead; and what is a PS Portal if not a DualSense with a screen in the middle. I have successfully abstained from buying the Edge. I used one for an extended period of time earlier this summer and oh boy, the battery life is as abysmal as the people say. I am still curious about the accessibility controller. I flirt with it and the Xbox version from time to time. It'd serve as just that though—a curiosity—in my collection.

Xbox stays. Sorry not sorry. Now that everything is an Xbox, maybe I can add all the others to this total?

In the miscellaneous section, I did swap out the Quest headset for the new 3S. The killer deal going on this Black Friday and looking into the differences between the 3S and the 3, sold me. The fact that spec-wise the two are identical (chip and RAM wise) gave me confidence that I'd be able to play GTA someday on it. I do wish I could have afforded the 3 for the resolution bump, but the price was too hard to beat on the 3S. Plus I was able to sell my Quest 2 for $200. The 3S controllers look and feel very similar to the Quest 2 ones, but without the big ol' tracking circles on top. Neat.

I have my eye on plenty of controllers. I barely stopped myself from pre-ordering this new GameCube controller years after my beloved Panda Controller vanished. I'm into the idea of a BattlerGC Pro. I've been eyeing CRKD NEO for a bit now, as well as their Nitro Decks. I'd love one of the new Rock Band guitar controller (no not that one). 8BitDo just doesn't stop. There is certainly no shortage of controllers for me to acquire in the coming years. I wager that next year will see few additions, primarily whatever the Switch successor ends up being. I'd love to get another racing wheel to pair with Gran Turismo 7 and PS VR2. Hoooooooo mama that'd be so, so cool.

I'll say it again, "the controller is the way fully experience a game." I love mine. It's good to touch base every year and see what's changed. Until next year...
