Capcom's 2D Fighting Collections Are Not Using RE Engine
You know me. I love writing about Capcom's RE Engine and all it can do. When I picked up my copy of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics1 last week, I expected to the little RE Engine icon grace the back of the box, but that was not what met my gaze. Beneath legendary key art and a wall of legalese I saw the logo for MT Framework, Capcom's previous in-house engine.
After a little digging, I found out that all of the 2D fighting game collections are not using the all powerful engine. There's the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, Capcom Fighting Collection, and, presumably, the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2. All of these use MT Framework.
I wonder why. So many games use RE Engine now, including 2D titles, arcade titles, and fighting games. If Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective uses RE Engine, I don't see why Marvel vs. Capcom doesn't run off it.
The next big RE Engine game is Monster Hunter Wilds. The only announced game after that is Pragmata. I feel like it is safe to assume that Resident Evil 9 will also utilize the hotness. I wonder what is next, maybe Ace Attorney 7?
