A Life Well Wasted Episode 9 is About Concord

Finally finished the latest episode A Life Well Wasted by Robert Ashley. Excellent work, as one should expect by now. It's a tightly focused on some devs from a game that no longer exists. It's the stories behind the people who worked to bring a game to life just to have it be blinked from existence.

"...and talks to several developers who worked on what might be the biggest flop in video game history about what it was like to spend years making something that no longer exists."

Emphasis added by me.

The flop is Concord.

Near the start, Robert mentions that they are just referring to the game as "the game." He emphasizes that it's not important what studio or what game was being talked about. The story is about the people that made the game.

I agree with Robert, but my curiosity had to be satisfied. It actively distracted me.

A little searching of unique first names and Concord's credits basically confirmed it and then later on in the interview a story was shared about streamers racing to get the Platinum. It's Concord baby.

I wrote about Concord twice last year in the midst of its deletion from the universe. One of my favorite articles I wrote last year was Concord and the Coat of Many Failures. Reading back, the story wasn't about the devs at Firewalk as it was more about thesnake oil salesmen at ProbablyMonsters and the misguided leadership at Sony. I played the beta of Concord and enjoyed it, especially when playing with a friend. My group didn't have buy-in though.

Hearing these devs story shows a new side to the mess that was Concord and this side shows the grief and levity found by some of those willing to share the story of Concord so that it might not be lost to the stars.
