My Second WaveBird LIVES
There have been murmurings of an open source WaveBird receiver solution for quite some time. The WavePhoenix emerged from the ashes and I immediately considered building my own. Then Laser Bear Industries beat me to it and announced a preassembled kit. I ordered one ASAP.
When I got my copy of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for dirt cheap, the guy threw in a "broken WaveBird" he had lying around. I'm not one to turn down free GameCube controllers so I took it.
Upon taking the controller apart, everything seemed to be in order. I tried pairing it with my sole WaveBird receiver but it would not connect. This led me to discover that there were two models of receiver/controller and my two did not match up. I needed a solution like the WavePhoenix.
Mine just showed up and it works perfectly. Just spectacular. I might grab a couple more WaveBirds with missing receivers before their prices shoot up. Have a whole lineup of WaveBirds would be a dream come true.
Tito from Macho Nacho Productions made a quick little video about the receiver if you want to see it in action.
